As a family, we had dined here for the first time on a Friday evening. The restaurant was pretty busy, and they were still able to accommodate my family wanting to sit in a booth. Our server was amazing and that really made our first time at this restaurant wonderful. We decided to return to grab food while we were in the area. It was a Monday evening and the restaurant was not that busy, at all. However, the service was extremely slow. And when you dine with 2 toddlers, it’s important to keep things moving. The silverware and the app dishes were dirty, so I just set them aside and during our whole meal that’s where they stayed. Once our food arrived, some of it was good. The soup was a little too salty and there was a hair in my chicken taco. On the bright side my kiddos liked the rice. The server didn’t return for quite some time, we waited terribly long for the check all the while watching her checking in on her other tables. She never even came to clear out the dishes. The server would take so long in between times she came around, I didn’t even feel the need to bring up an issue, but also not being observant of what’s happening at your table. I ordered food then just push it aside and let it sit at the end of the table. Once we got out of there, my husband and I agreed that this is not the type of dining we like to experience even for a casual meal, and we are OK never going back.
Well what should I say about this? Me and my wife got the mocojeta and it was barely a serving for one. We got to drink a watermelon fresca and my wife got a horchata all the drinks were very delicious, but they do not give you a lot of meat and the mochahate. They don't serve it right. The beans and rice are supposed to be on the outside, not the inside was very disappointed in it. It's not worth $30. I've had better in California at the sexy michelada I most definitely would not order it again but other than that everything was fine
This was our second time at the restaurant, first time at this location. Much better service this time around. Staff are nice, friendly. Food came really quick. Food was really good! Lots of choices if you have a tomato allergy. Music playing in background, a little hard to talk over, but then we went on a Friday evening. Able to have large groups, we saw 3 groups of 10 seated around us. This location has outdoor seating, but does not allow dogs except service dog, which we thought unusual for Arizona. Will definitely come back here.
Hubby and I went out for a much needed date night. We were able to grab open seats at the bar immediately but if we wanted, there were tables available. Barrio Queen made it easy and stress-free for me to order something delicious and gluten free! I ended up with the Quesabirria taco and a side of charro beans, which are Celiac safe and super tasty. My husband ordered the Camaron, the Mar Y Tierra and the Quesabirria tacos. He loved all the different tacos and tried out this incredible, spicy cocktail called "Death's Door", which came with this beautiful, handmade Mexican candy skull mug (for an additional $12). I requested an orange one to represent the marigold petals used for Dia De Los Muertos. They sell these mugs in different colors and they're fully glazed so you can drink hot and cold drinks from them. I'm in love and may have to go back for more colors. I ordered the "Mezcalita" cocktail, which was basically a pineapple juice sweetened margarita with mezcal instead of tequila. I got a double and it went perfectly with my taco and beans. We also got the Jalapeño margarita which was really good but Death's Door was, by far, our favorite drink because we love spicy. This drink comes with a warning of how spicy it is. And it is super spicy but so worth it. It burns so GOOD.🔥 I highly recommend giving Barrio Queen a try. We have only been here a couple of times but everything is made fresh to order. We were able to enjoy cocktails, tacos, house made chips and salsa plus sides for just over $100 with tip. It was a fun, easy date night for us and we both agreed Barrio Queen needs to be our regular date night restaurant.
I have been here many times in the past several years, and the experience is not consistent. I love the short rib enchiladas, but they were out of the meat this last trip. Then overheard the table over, they ran out of tomatoes for Guacamole. Seems weird early on a Saturday night. There was one third empty tables in the restaurant, but a wait to be seated, so I'm guessing they are understaffed. My server seemed to be over about ten tables and way overstretched. Server was great when around, just gone for very long periods when needed. Last time in, I waited about an hour to be seated, when given a 40 minute wait time. Everyone that came in after me was seated! I finally asked them, and they said they had been calling my phone number given, but I never got a call. Atmosphere is fun if you like sugar skulls for decor. Margaritas are delicious. Chips are made in their own fryer and gluten free, and several menu items are gluten free which I need. My daughter likes their chicken tenders and rice, who is typically very picky. Tried the Guacamole for the first time this recent trip and the pomegranate is a unique yummy touch. Worth a try!
